How to Create Your Own Dress Style
Go through your closet and make four piles. In the first pile, put everything that you want to keep. This pile can end up very small - don't worry about that. The second pile is for clothes that you can give away or donate. The third pile is for clothes that are so ruined that they cannot be worn. These can later be made into rags or thrown out. The last pile should have clothes that you won't wear, but like something about it- maybe it's the color, or it's made of a cool fabric. Set these aside for later.

Make a list of the clothes you need. If you had thirty pairs of pants and threw out four pairs, you don't need to buy any more pants. But, if you had the same thirty pants and threw out twenty-eight of them, you might want to buy a few more pairs.

Look through gossip magazines, fashion magazines, pictures of celebrities, or even catalogs. Focus your attention solely on the style that is presented and be mindful of thoughts that stray towards the appearance of the body. Redirect those thoughts back to the task at hand! Is there a look that jumps out at you? Make notes of your favorites by naming the characteristics of the style that you like; cut the pictures out and choose a favorite look.

Be realistic. Obviously, if you choose to dress like Jessica Simpson, you'll probably want to change the look so it's cheaper and more appropriate for your body and lifestyle. Although Jessica can easily pull off Daisy Duke shorts, you might not want to and probably can't wear that to work or school. Modify it until you love it - and can wear it.
Go out and hit the mall (if your bank account will allow it!)- or even better, the outlets. They have reduced prices on all their clothes.
Be a bargain shopper - if you see a shirt that's "to die for" in one store but it's a little on the pricy side, shop around for another one that's very similar, but with a price tag that's a little easier on your purse.

Be sure to buy the basic things. A couple pairs of jeans, basic tank tops, and T-shirts are staples.
Look for unique items. Ask yourself, "What is something I like that no one else wears?
when you have enough money to buy a few outfits raid the town or mall and look though charity shops vintage shops every shop and get whaever you like nothing has to match. Then put all the outfts together and/or customise them.
Enhance your total look with accessories.
Hats are always good accessories; find a few in styles you like.
Earrings can help accent the face. If you're unsure about what kind of earrings to buy, silver dangly earrings or classic silver hoops look good on almost everyone.
You can wear pearls, especially the single-stranded pearls; this is wearable even with a more casual look. Modernize classic pearls with a string of plastic black or colored beads to match your outfit; combined with pearls, this looks very stylish and interesting.

Get several pairs of shoes. They do not have to be expensive to look nice, so check out places like Target for really good deals. If you plan to wear sandals a lot, be sure to keep your toe nails pedicured.
Casual looks can be dressed up with a nice scarf. There are tons of these in beautiful colors and prints at Goodwill or Salvation Army, usually for under a dollar.

When you're satisfied (making sure everything follows the three F's - Flatters, Fits, Finances), go home and try to make outfits out of your new clothes. Mix and match - even if you didn't think your new tank would look good with your capris, try it out. Maybe all you need is that belt you haven't worn since last summer to pull the whole outfit together.
Mix different styles. You'd be surprised at what styles actually do mix.
You can wear last season's short sleeve tops even in the winter time by having sweaters in basic colors, such as black, grey and tan. Tanks also look great layered over long-sleeved tees.

Black pants or a skirt can be worn with a stylish top and you'll look great. You can even enhance that look with a scarf or pashmina.
You can wrap a scarf around your neck and let it drape over your shoulders, tie a knot in the front, make a small bow, or clasp it together with a decorative pin or button.
Be bold with the colors that you like to wear, but stick to what suits you. Try a boldly-colored shirt with more neutral skirt and shoes or neutral outfit and colored accessories.
Take your fourth pile (of clothes you don't wear regularly) and try creating new garments. Use the fabrics to make new accessories or update a plain shirt with fabric accents.
Take some lessons on how to wear make up, or ask your makeup-savvy sister, Mom, or friend for some tips. Choose a makeup brand that is sold in a department store and visit their booth for a "complimentary" makeover. Tell the makeup artist that you are interested in new eye colors, want to experiment with new lip shades and/or would like to learn more about their products. Know that they are probably expecting you to purchase at least one thing so approach the situation with a plan to buy a cheap lip gloss or the whole look! You could be covering or hiding your best features so try to discover what shows off your positive assets.

Choose a unique hair style. Look through fashion magazines for inspiration (most salons already have lots of books on hand for this purpose). Don't be shy around your stylist! Feel free to tell the stylist exactly what you want. Discover the best style for your hair that suits the shape of your face. Decide on a hair colour and stick with it. This will help you come across as more self-assured; you know what you like.
Always bring a sweater with you.
